Do your eyes always look tired and droopy? If so, Blepharoplasty, otherwise known as eyelid surgery, is a procedure you may want to consider.
Blepharoplasty is a surgery performed on the eyelids in which fat, excess skin and muscle are removed from the upper and lower eyelids. The procedure eliminates the eye's droopy and puffy appearance and can improve the patient's vision. In fact, insurance often covers the cost of Blepharoplasty surgery if the patient can prove loss of vision due to droopy eyelids. An eyelid lift can be performed in conjunction with brow and face lifts.
This outpatient procedure takes one to three hours and is completed under local anesthesia. Recovery lasts for approximately ten days and minor discomfort is normal. While healing, the eyelids may feel sore and tight. However, pain medication is administered to minimize discomfort.
As with any surgery, certain risks are involved. If you have history of glaucoma, dry eyes or a detached retina, you should first consult with an ophthalmologist. Other conditions that can increase the risk of the surgery include cardiovascular disease, hypothyroidism, Grave's disease, diabetes and high blood pressure.
Although a Blepharoplasty (eyelid lift surgery) is highly effective at correcting droopy, hooded or puffy eyelids, an eyelid lift will not correct dark circles, crow's feet or sagging eyebrows. Sagging eyebrows are addressed through a separate procedure known as a forehead/brow lift.
Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Lift Surgery) Recovery
Following eyelid surgery, temporary swelling at the corners of the eyes or blurred vision is possible. There is also a possibility that incisions may heal asymmetrically. Although extremely rare, some patients have difficulty closing their eyes completely. This can become permanent. For several weeks following the surgery, patients cannot wear contact lenses and many physical activities are restrained.
Upon healing, you will emerge with a youthful and refreshed appearance.Feel more confident and look years younger. Schedule a consultation today!
