During a liposuction procedure, Fat (lipo) is suctioned out of the body using small tubes called cannulas which are hooked to a suction device. It is done by cosmetic surgeons or plastic surgeons using standard surgical techniques to provide pain relief and prevent infection during the procedure. The suction cannulas are placed under the skin where the fat exists just outside the muscle layer. The fat layer is thinned out allowing the muscle contours to be seen more clearly producing a more attractive silhouette.
