Rhinoplasty(Nose Surgery) for Men

Rhinoplasty, also known as a nose job, is a procedure that involves the reshaping of the nose. Whether you feel your nose is too large, too wide, crooked, bumpy or abnormally flared, a nose job (rhinoplasty) may be the best solution. Rhinoplasty can also correct breathing problems and other birth defects.

Because there are so many ways to execute a rhinoplasty, it is important to clearly express your expectations in the consultation. You must also accept that there are certain limitations to this procedure.

In most cases, the surgery is performed under general anesthesia with a duration of about two hours. As long as the procedure can be performed from inside the nose, scarring will not be visible. In very rare cases, a follow up procedure may be required to correct any minor deformities.

Upon completion of the procedure, a metal or plastic splint is applied as protection to the nose and to maintain its new shape.Within two weeks, the splint can be removed. Nasal packing is often used to support the septum and will be removed after a few days.

While in recovery, headaches, bruising, swelling and some pain should be expected. Most of the swelling and bruising will diminish after two weeks, but minor swelling can last up to several months.

Although it may take a few weeks to feel completely normal, most people can return to school or work after about four days of rest. However, strenuous activity is prohibited for three to four weeks following the surgery.

With a rhinoplasty, healing can be a slow process. Full results may not be apparent for a year following the surgery.
